A Ransom for a little rider

After waiting several months, this grom (a term we just learned for a young participant in extreme sports) was excited to take home his new Ransom 600.

The Ransom 400 and 600 are part of Scott’s “Future Pro” collection. Modeled after the adult version, the Ransom has a “flip chip” which alters the geometry to accommodate 24” or 26” wheels, bringing a real full suspension bike with 130/140mm of travel complete with dropper post to traditionally harder to fit smaller bodies. Kids bikes often get overlooked for gearing range and usability, but the Ransom 400/600 knocks it out of the park with a fantastic Shimano Deore 1×11 drivetrain using an 11-51 cassette and junior-sized 140mm cranks.

Because the Ransom 400/600 use boost 148mm rear spacing with 12mm thru-axle and 100mm front fork with 15mm thru-axle, adult specs not commonly found in smaller 24” and 26” wheels. The bike arrived as a 600 (with 26” wheels), so I hand-built a set of 24” wheels for this rider to start with, the 26” wheels waiting in his garage to swap over as he grows.

Although the 2021 bikes are sold out, starting in July we will be taking 2022 pre-orders. Send an email to info@stevethebikeguy.com if you’d like to be on the “want” list to receive a call in July to take advantage of STBG pre-order deals and offers.

And, if you need a set of wheels for your Ransom 400/600, I can hand build a pair and ship around the country. Just drop a line or give a call to discuss.
