A family wedding in Tucson afforded my wife and I the opportunity to check out a few area bicycle shops, as well as watch thousands of riders in the Tour de Tucson raise money to support Special Olympics and a list of local and national non-profit organizations.
Established in 1994, Sabino is a “traditional bike shop, providing personalized service to a broad range of loyal customers.” Carrying bikes from Giant, Specialized, Seven, Cipollini and Electra, they also have a wide array of parts, accessories and clothing. While at the shop, we learned about Tucson’s riding community, including the small (but growing) group of cyclocross enthusiasts.
Miles Ahead Cyclery
Specializing in the sale and servicing of road bikes, Miles Ahead carries bicycles from Cannondale, Look, Colnago, Bianchi, BH, Litespeed, and De Rosa plus a complete line of accessories, clothing and shoes. Visitors to The Cyclery can also take advantage of services provided by Tim Carolan, owner/operator of CycleFit Solutions LLC, who specializes in the “Wobble-Naught high precision bike fit system which includes Road, Tri, TT and Mountain bikes along with Cyclesoles custom cycling orthotics.”
A big thank you to shop owner, and veteran road rider, Geoff Gould and his wife for taking time to give us a tour of the Cyclery and share his advice and experience.
Pro Bike Tucson
Less than a mile from Miles Ahead and Sabino is Pro Bike Tucson. Carrying BMC, Pinarello, Scott and Rocky Mountain, Pro-Bike offers sales, service and bicycle fitting.
With the Tour de Tucson in full swing, and many shops gearing up for the winter when cycling teams come to Tucson to set up training camps, I was grateful to each shop for taking the time to speak with me during our bike shop tour.
